As most of you know by now, the Willsmere intercom has been faulty for some time.  Due to the unique nature of Willsmere, repairing such an old unit with 25 year old cabling over such long distances has been very difficult.  The repairers have exhausted nearly all avenues and short of a very expensive re-cabling of the entire complex, we have decided to upgrade the unit to a much more modern system with many new advantages over the existing model.

The new system will still look like a conventional intercom, but will be based on cell phone technology.  When someone types in your apartment number, the system will call up to three mobile or land line numbers.  When you answer the call from the intercom, you can talk to the visitor and then press a key on your phone to let the visitor in.  This means if you are away from home and a delivery arrives, you can still talk to the delivery driver and let them into the front entrance and instruct them to leave the package there for you in a secure location.  It also means if you are out and forget your keyfob, you can use the intercom to call yourself to be let in.  If there are a number of people living in your apartment and you are out, when you see the intercom caller ID calling you, you can choose not to answer it and the call will go to your flat-mate to answer.

As a very often requested bonus, this means we can also have an intercom base unit installed at the Gate 6 pedestrian gate (subject to no unforeseen issues).

Over the next couple of weeks, more information will be available and we will be putting a form on the website for residents to provide the phone numbers they want the system to use.  You can give up to three numbers in the order you would like the system to call them.
